ABOUT OUR TRADITIONAL WORSHIP SERVICESTraditional Lutheran worship is liturgical and sacramental. Liturgical worship means that we follow a set order of service or liturgy each time we worship. Within that set liturgy are parts which are the same each Sunday, the Ordinary, and the parts which change each Sunday, the Propers. Sacramental worship means that the high point of our worship is the family meal during which the members of the family gather around the family table, the altar, to share the feast, called Communion. Lutheran liturgical worship is two-part: the first part of our worship, beginning with the Introit or Entrance Psalm, is the Service of the Word. Herein we focus our attention on what our God and Father and his Son Jesus have to say to us concerning their loving acts for us and our loving response to them. The second part of our worship, The Service of the Sacrament, is the family meal, during which we receive the assurance of God's love and forgiveness and strength for our daily walk with him. For your convenience the order of service is printed out in the bulletin you receive from the usher. Selected hymns whose numbers are listed in the bulletin are found in either the Lutheran Worship Hymn Book or the Hymnal Supplement. COMMUNION As Lutherans we believe in the real presence of the body and blood of our Lord Jesus in, with and under the bread and wine. Those who examine themselves and recognize both their sinfulness and the presence of the Lord in the Supper and in the church may share the Holy Supper, and receive the Lord's Gifts of forgiveness of sins, life and salvation. PRAYER REQUESTSPart of our responsibility is the sharing with one another our needs and joys and those of our friends, families and neighbors. In our service, there is time for special prayer requests. Prayer request cards are available on the guest book table in the narthex (entry hall) of the church and in the pews. If you wish your special requests for yourself or others added to the special intercessions for the day, during this service, please fill out the prayer request card with the name of the person for whom we are praying, including your relationship with that person, for what purpose we are praying, and your name. Then hand the card to an usher or host/hostess who will pass it on to the pastor or hand it to the pastor during the Gathering of Prayers and Offerings. RECORD OF FELLOWSHIPDuring the gathering of the offering, all worshipers are asked to fill out our Record of Fellowship . (That is the red folder, located in the book racks on the outside end of each row.) If you are our guest, we hope you will add your address and phone number so that we can get to know you better. NURSERYThere is a nursery for children through the age of four available for your use. If you wish to care for your child in the in the nursery, please do so. There is a television monitor located in the nursery so that parents may continue to follow the worship service. The nursery is located at the end of the hallway in the office area of the church. We have reserved the overflow area of the church as a place for families with pre-school children so they can get in and out with a minimum amount of disruption. | Last updated: 11/15/2008 |
